Importing

AuthorIT has a superb, highly-configurable importer, which can be set up to perform intelligent import of documents from multiple sources and containing varying levels of formal or ad-hoc formatting.

By definition, importing is often a one-time-only exercise, while achieving the best results requires considerable knowledge of the process and of the importer's facilities. For this reason, having our experts configure the importer for your documents may prove an efficient and economical alternative to acquiring the necessary knowledge.

We analyse your documents to identify:

  • potential problems that might affect or even prevent import
  • opportunities for tidying the documents as part of the import process - for example, by eliminating inconsistency of formatting, merging very similar styles, and eliminating redundant styles
  • opportunities to add features automatically - for example, by auto-replacing elements such as company and product names with AuthorIT variables
  • aspects that can be changed to make the documents more suitable as single-source content

We then agree a strategy with you to handle each of the identified requirements. This usually involves some combination of:

  • pre-processing in the original application
  • configuration of AuthorIT's importer to perform style mapping, text replacements and document segmentation
  • post-processing those elements that are easier to handle in AuthorIT

With the analysis and planning done, we can set up appropriate import profiles, allowing batch-processing of your documents. From there, the actual importing can be done by you, or we are happy to undertake it on your behalf.
